Sets in the City
Living in a co-ord renaissance
I love a matching set. Also known as twinsets in the 50s, power suits in the 80s, lounge sets in the 2000s (shoutout COVID), and now co-ords. Or maybe all the names are interchangeable? Who knows. All I know is I’m into them.
Funny thing is, if you’d asked me a few years ago, I probably would’ve said being that coordinated felt too precious. Like I was trying too hard. But now? I’m always on the lookout. Because sets make getting dressed simple. And they just look good.
I think back to those Lilly Pulitzer sets. The super colorful, scalloped ones that were everywhere. Or the Juicy Couture tracksuit I was never allowed to buy (Mama, you were right - as always). And now I’m constantly reaching for a 2007 Cynthia Rowley set my mom passed down.
For me, a matching set can go either way. It can be a bold print in a bright color that turns your outfit into a full moment. One that gets the attention it deserves.

Or it can be something simple and chic. I.e. a beautiful brown silk top and pant, dressed up with fun jewelry and gold shoes. A fit that can elevate your outfit without dumping your entire closet onto the floor.

And then there’s the in-between with a subtle, polished print in a neutral palette. Sets that are just the right amount of pattern to keep things interesting.

And then there are the easy ones - a solid set in one good color. Perfect for errands, the beach, or just hanging out. This one's a new brand I’ve been eyeing and I’m excited to try it.

So… let’s match! But first, here are some other honorable mentions from Julia Amory. She has mastered the matching (and mismatching) top + bottom equation.
