Suit Yourself
Looks I’m loving for the beach, the boat, and everything in between.
Lately, I’ve been thinking… going to the beach requires a bit of mental math.
I’m calculating tan lines, sweat levels, what’s too sheer off the beach, and what won’t make me overheat on the walk there. I’m always on the hunt for a suit with good coverage and shoes that protect from third-degree sand burn.
I want the equation to equal looking good, feeling good, and staying cool.
So here are the looks that manage to do all three. I’m linking everything and including “same but save” picks on LTK. I want your summer style to be smart and easy.
Look 1: Classic in Black
A black one-piece is my default. Always chic and always flattering. This one feels very Meredith Blake: poolside, on her second martini, and absolutely not going on the twins camping trip. The sandals are my most-worn pair. I started with gold and now I own several. Linking those, plus a similar Aerin option.
Look 2: On Repeat
You know that saying… when you like something, buy it in every color? That’s the situation with Left on Friday. Their suits fit like a dream and feel even better. I have this one in a few shades, but the blue always gets the most attention.
Look 3: Clean Lines Only
Black, strapless, simple. That’s the formula. I added a few strap options if that’s more your style. But for me, it’s about clean silhouettes and avoiding tan lines. These Amazon patent flip flops are so very elevated, the hat travels well, and the cover-up works overtime. Done and done!
Look 4: White Done Right
A white suit is one of those high-risk, high-reward situations. But when it works, it really works. I linked a few that pass the test. The raffia-effect kaftan is a knockout at a great price. Paired it with raffia Manolos (or Steve Madden lookalikes) and you're good to go.
Look 5: Tonal & Tan
Linking this sun hat again because I could go on and on about it! It gives the best coverage, folds up perfectly, and has this old-school elegance I love. The coverup is giving Tory Burch at a not-so-Tory price. I’d wear it with a neutral suit - all linked below!
Look 6 & 7: Polished Print
I tend to pass on printed swim. It’s not always easy to wear. But these feel elevated and easy. The tones are rich, the shapes are clean, and they hold their own without being loud. I like to balance it out with neutrals and easy accessories.
Look 8: Heating Up
Dare I say… brown is the new black?? Especially with a tan. Especially with gold. These suits are simple and refined. Easy to wear and easy to style.
Look 9: The Beach Closer
Ending on a high note! I love this look. These suits lean playful but remain polished. The rich colors and clean silhouettes bring all the chicness you need. The white set keeps it grounded and that Lorna Murray hat pulls it all together.
And lastly, some scoop on summer hair…
Air-Dried Against All Odds
Unfortunately, I didn’t inherit my mom’s hair. I got my dad’s - who I love very much, but let’s just say… volume wasn’t part of the package.
I’m the type who blow-dries before going anywhere, even if it’s just dinner. But heat styling and fine hair aren’t exactly a dream team. So we’ve got a bit of a situation…
This summer, I’m giving my blow dryer a break and these products make that decision look entirely intentional.
