The Knitty Gritty (pt 2)
elevating knits for events
Dressing up when the temps drop can feel tricky, but it’s actually my favorite season to style. Something about cold air makes me…. a lil dramatic. More layers, more texture, more depth, more everything! Summer is cute, but winter is chic.
What I like to keep in mind:
START WITH THE BOTTOM, NOT THE TOP - A strong bottom decides the mood, the proportion, the color story, etc. Once the skirt is right, the top becomes obvious.
WORK OFF COLOR STORIES - F/W shades bring depth, so play into it. Build around rich, tonal pairings that feel intentional.
ACCESSORIES SHIFT MOOD - The skill is knowing when to edit… & when to lean in.
TEAM WINTER SHOE - Boots can lengthen and a pump sharpens everything. The shoe should anchor and never be an afterthought.
And then #5 is all about COATS/JACKETS because outerwear finishes everything… and I need an entire post to even get into it.
Let’s go through a few pieces + pairings to show you exactly what I mean →
— Brown Knit: the monochrome anchor for the bottom
— Skirt: perfectly aligned in tone, reads intentional rather than “matchy”
— Slingback Heel: a slight shade shift that keeps the monochrome from feeling flat
— Knee Boot: the deepest brown in the mix, adds weight without breaking the palette
— Statement Earring: gold works here by lifting the browns (instead of competing)
— Burgundy Clutch: just off-tone enough to make the browns look even richer
— Embellished Knit: the perfect example of a statement sweater
— Black Jeans: the right mix of ease and edge
— Loafers: everyone needs a shoe movement like this
— Beaded Earrings: I am a sucker for a clip on
— Polka Dot Pant: playful + refined, adds movement
— Mesh Slingback: pattern play, echoes the print but feels layered from sheer texture
— Bernadette Floral Skirt: a mature print moment. Chic structure, fluid
— Brown Knit: slim fit to offset the skirt’s volume, ties the color story together
— Brown Slingbacks: low heel, pointed toe, rich brown
— Earrings: chic, thoughtful detail
— Green Draped Skirt: dramatic, fluid, and flattering
— Black Turtleneck: could go brown here too, also fitted
— Black Knee Boots: extends the line and grounds the color.
— Green Heels: my fav heels at the moment, elevated and comfy
— Black Earrings: the best black earrings on the market
— Lisa Yang Top & Skirt: yes to matching sets all day, esp from my fav knit brands
— Brown Knee Boots: the easy choice, keeps the look grounded
— Earrings: clean and minimal
— Allude Top & Pant: another favorite knit brand of mine
— Gold Pumps: quickest way to dress up anything - this set, denim, trousers, etc.
— Brown Croc Clutch: adds texture, keeps the tonal story strong
— Pendant (+ wire): no words… on beauty or price
— Yellow Crewneck: pulls out the soft yellow
— Printed Wrap Skirt: the shape, color story, and movement make this 10/10
— Gold Drop Earring: bringing the continued color up to the face
— Yellow/Brown Printed Skirt: loving the scale of this print
— Brown Turtleneck: anchors the color story, adds depth (or have fun w/ pattern play)
— Nude Clutch: a neutral that intentionally disappears (+ shape makes it a moment)
— Knit Top & Skirt: when you want some draaaaama
— Drop Earrings: love the detail on these
— Rope Necklace: for when you arent feeling earrings
— Knee Boot: the necessary weight… cut the shine and make it modern
— Mock Neck: picked thin and fitted here, keeps the skirt structure from feeling heavy
— Ruffle Skirt: the volume is intentional, breaks up the monochrome brown
— Gold Hoop: the texture mirrors the ruffle without overwhelming it
— Green Turtleneck: pairs back to the skirt perfectly
— Jacquard Skirt: the raised texture gives interest
— Slingback Heel: clean, minimal, the perfect tone for both looks
— Navy Clutch: love to play with colors in accessories and I have been LOVING navy
— Navy Turtleneck: the quiet shift in tone that gives the whole look its depth
— Draped Black Skirt: a chic draped moment
— Bubble Black Skirt: just as chic volume, I like offering 2 shapes within 1 idea
— Slingback Heel: the muted navy ties everything together
— Silver Earring: silver just looks better with navy… I don’t make the rules
— Navy Clutch: finishing touch, making the whole palette feel rich and considered
— Black Sleeveless Turtleneck: peplum, neckline… check & check
→ Similar + Save: option 1, option 2
— Pink/Red Earrings: adding some color for fun
— Black Wide Leg Denim: just got from Ulla - SO good, price per wear confirmed
— Boots: sleek with just enough height
— Red Clutch: adds warmth and ties back to earrings
— Halter Knit: perfect for fall
— Wide-Leg Jeans: same as black, just blue washed
— Leopard Flats: adds some flare, love leopard with tan/beige
→ Similar + Save: option 1, option 2
And because I love a winter bride moment… here’s a little extra! all linked in Knitty Gritty.
Lean into the layers, the depth, the texture - that’s where the fun is. Just remember… if we’re going to freeze, we might as well look good doing it.
Xx,
LVR
