The No. 5 Edit
five favorites for now & later
I like to do a full clean out before I switch my closet over each season (don’t worry - I’m not doing it yet… even though I want to). It’s still August, but my brain is already blending what I’m wearing now with what I can’t wait to wear next.
I start by putting away the summer pieces I know I won’t reach for again, pulling the ones I’m done with to donate or sell, and taking note of what I might want in the months ahead. It’s just prep before I pull out my boxes of fall clothes. But in the process, I’ve landed on five things I either keep reaching for now or know will be in heavy rotation soon.
1. Ground Work
I love a summer sandal, but I looooove fall shoes. This year I’m sneaking in my “fall forward” pairs early. Ie - wearing a chunkier loafer or suede sneaker with a cute summer/transitional dress.
Right now my favorites are these and these. I’m eyeing these beautiful chocolate calf hair loafers and suede sneakers (oh, and these). Waiting on that first crisp day to wear these under jeans and this Ann Mashburn pair with this maxi. I have these suede slides on my wishlist but realistically will go with this option.
2. Ladies Who Lounge
(or host mahjong, or run errands, or work from home, etc.)
My favorite kind of outfit is one I can wear on the couch and also out the door. My mom gets it - she’s always asking me to send her something that can survive a cleaning spree but still look polished when she’s off to run errands or host mahjong. Elevated pieces that work inside and outside. Wear your everyday jewelry and boom - no “changing into something decent” required.
My go to is a matching set - loving Eterne at the moment. This top and pant looks comfy and the color is perfect (also comes in white and blue). A clean crew neck always feels good and looks good. And then a structured white tee and black wide leg will never fail you.
3. 100%
Knits are a constant in my wardrobe. Right now I’m living in lighter layers like this, this, and this. But the minute the temperature drops I’ll be pulling out heavier knits and adding this turtleneck (with matching pant) and cashmere to the mix. This true white knit is hard to come by (especially at this price) and great for the transitional weeks.
I just love a knit! They can make an outfit clean, chic, and elegant all at the same time. There is a reason why my knit edit on ShopMy is the largest category - filled with a wide range of styles and prices. Like these Lisa Yang shorts paired back with this top. In love. Ok ok… last thing - this knit top and skirt for a winter bride.
4. Fifty Shades of Grey
Grey has been having a moment in my closet. I used to think of it as just sweats, but now it feels impossible to get wrong. It sharpens ivory, softens black, and adds depth with denim. I have been loving the Colby pant in dark grey with a white tee and then Staud has been nailing sets lately like this matching top and pant. I have this super chic top and skirt on my wishlist but other easy ways to throw in grey are tees and knits. I will always love my grey knit from Loulou de Saison. It’s the color that works with everything and never tries too hard. You will find it sprinkled through my shelves on ShopMy.
5. Leg Room
If you know me, you know these: The Row’s Gala Pant (love in black, white, and navy too) and the exact dupe - La Ligne’s Colby Pant (love the white too). They are constant go-tos. I am just a sucker for an elastic waist. They work for the store, the office, or a nice dinner and are always comfy. I haven’t tried these other pairs yet, but I’m definitely curious about these and these.
Xx,
LVR
